Clocking in at over a dozen projects in as many years using various aliases and mediums, the prolific Mr. Rust returns yet again with his album Synesthesia.

With a musical resume that dates to the earlier days of modern beat music, he brings a mature quality to his beats that show he is rooted in his past and footed for toward the future. Mr. Rust is more quintessentially Boom-bap than Lofi and the distinction works perfectly here.

Rust's saxophone playing on Lost in Orleans tempers his detailed sample chopping on The Cave which in turn compliments his keyboard skills on the genre bending Sirens. Peppered with signature finger-drumming, live scratches and field records the details and layers of this album conveys an optimistic yet reflective mood for the listener.

Nowadays, less is more and clocking in at just under 30 minutes, Synesthesia is meticulously efficient in creating its tone and more importantly the journey is undeniably delicious.
